Early Entrance to Kindergarten Process
State law establishes minimum age requirements for admission to kindergarten. Clinton-Massie's board policy states that a child must turn 5 on or before August 1 in order to meet the age requirement for entering kindergarten. A child may be recommended for early admittance in accordance with the District's acceleration policy adopted under State law. Deadline for an Early Entrance to Kindergarten Application is May 30th.
If a parent is considering the option of applying for early entrance to kindergarten, the following steps will need to be taken:
-
Complete the enrollment process for Clinton-Massie Local Schools.
-
Complete the Early Entrance to Kindergarten Application and submit to Central Registration (located in the Annex) or email to desiree.osborn@cmfalcons.org.
-
Once the application is received, a school representative will contact the parent to set up an individual screening assessment, led by school staff. Assessments will include a variety of activities to measure the child's performance in personal and social development, language and literacy, mathematical thinking, physical well-being, and motor development.
-
Recommendation for early entrance to kindergarten will be made based on a review of screening assessment data, parent application data and any other relevant documentation submitted.
-
Parents will be notified in writing of the school's recommendation within 15 days of the assessment session, therefore, results will bot be provide on the day of the screening.
If a child is found eligible for early entrance, a written acceleration plan will be written and a copy will be provided to the parent. This plan will be written prior to the start of the school year.
