Mental Health Therapist

Hi! My name is Kelsey Fox. I am the Mental Health Therapist for the middle and high school here at Clinton Massie. I see a variety of students for a wide range of needs. I provide short-term and long-term individual mental health counseling, crisis, group counseling, access to resources, and check-ins for at-risk students and families.
About Me

I have worked in the mental health field for 9 years in different settings but my experience is mostly from working with children and families in the counseling setting. I earned my Associate’s Degree in Human and Social Services from Southern State University. My Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University. And my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Campbellsville University. I am also a Licensed Social Worker in the state of Ohio.

As a Mental Health Therapist, I have a degree in social work and a license through The Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage & Family Therapy Board. Mental Health Therapists provide services related to students' and/or families social-emotional and life adjustment to school and/or society. A Mental Health Therapist within a school system is the link between the home, school, and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success. As a mental health therapist, I do many things to help students and their families overcome barriers, develop intervention strategies to increase academic success, and provide crisis intervention.

What do I do?

* Assess student needs and issues
* Assist the student in developing appropriate social skills
* Provide individual and group counseling
* Assess social/emotional/behavioral needs
* Coordinate services for families and students
* Network with community agencies
* Provide outreach to parents
* Help students who have problems with abuse and neglect
* Assist students who are experiencing or have experienced family violence
* Conduct home visits and interview families to assess problems affecting the child's educational process.

Why does my school have a Mental Health Therapist?

Children today are increasingly victims of many forces in the community, at home, and at school that negatively affect their role as students. The family system is in a state of change and until it becomes stabilized, children's unmet physical and emotional needs will continue to interfere with their ability to learn and ultimately graduate from high school. As a Mental Health Therapist in the school setting, I am uniquely qualified to work with students who are economically disadvantaged, have poor attendance, and have special needs. I think my child/student may need help.

What do I do?

If you have questions or concerns related to your child or another student. Please contact a member of the office or Kelsey Fox to share this concern.  Then the team (mental health therapist, guidance counselors, and other important persons related to the child)  will meet to determine the best plan of action to meet that student’s needs moving forward whether that be brief therapy with the guidance counselor, ongoing therapy from the Mental Health Therapist, or possible a referral to an outside agency.
